A walk with the Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8

A walk with the Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8

Last week I picked up the Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8 for my D3s.    I shot the comparable lens when I was shooting Canon and really miss the versatility of it.   I tend to shoot at fairly short focal lengths and I find this the perfect zoom lens for me.   It is the upper end of Nikon lenses and delivers great quality in terms of sharpness, color and bokeh.  I plan to only have a few lenses for my Nikon so this is a good investment for me.   The Canon version accounted for 80% of my shooting when I owned it. I plan to continue with my Leica M9 as my primary camera when I am out of the house either traveling or shooting on the street.   I will primarily use this set up for shooting my family and home life but decided to take this lens out for a walk and test out what it could do.

There was a crossing guard at a crosswalk in Shibuya.   His watch is what caught my attention...

The one thing I love about Japan as a photographer is the availability of gear.   Literally anything you want can be found within a few train stops.  There are a lot of shops selling really cool old cameras.  Tokyo is becoming a dangerous place for me to live...

In case all of the cones and signs about not parking your bicycle did not get your attention they have employed a guy with a sign to walk the streets....you know, just to be sure.

Please make sure you don't leave your unclaimed people on the trains anymore...  Your cooperation is appreciated.

I bumped into the Tokyo Guardian Angels... I might follow them and document their activities for a night.   It would make for an interesting blog post.  I am not sure they face a lot of danger...Tokyo is about the safest city in the world.   I image it is more helping drunk kids into a taxi but could make for an evening of interesting photography.

McDonald's is back at it with their 'Big America' campaign... Round 1: Grand Canyon Burger.   This is suppose to look like the Grand Canyon.   I have it give it to McDonald's Japan, they are a marketing machine with their never ending monthly promotions.   They have been hit and miss with me.   I am not a huge fast food eater but when they get it right the sandwiches are very good.   I didn't enjoy the Mega Teriyaki Burger, but the iCon Chicken was simply awesome and the Tsukimi Burger is welcomed visitor every fall.

...and the bokeh on this lens is excellent.   All in all I am very happy with this choice.   It is a great versatile walk around lens if you are looking for a one.
