The Ultimate Compliment
I was paid the ultimate compliment a few weeks ago when I was contact by Kodak's image-sensor spin-off True Sense Imaging. They are the manufacture of the sensor for my beloved Leica M9 and M Monochrom. They are in the process of looking for some images to hang in the lobby of their offices in Rochester, New York and wanted to see if they could buy a few prints from me to showcase the capabilities of their products. Considering how much I love my cameras this was a huge compliment for me. We went back and fourth a bit and decided on these 4 images. I really like these a lot and each reminds me of something. The first image we picked was 'Storm over Tokyo'. I shot this out of my old office window in Shinjuku. Whenever I look at this image it reminds me of the 10 years I spent working in Shinjuku and some of the great images I captured there.
The next one we chose was 'Ohanami'. I used to live very close to Meguro River for 8 years and always really enjoyed the river changing with the seasons and really coming alive for the Cherry Blossom season.
We also chose 'Reflections of Central Park West'. I shot this the day after the Jay Maisel Workshop in NYC at my friend Richard's apartment.
Lastly we chose this image of 'Shibuya Crossing'. I took this while showing around a new co-worker earlier this year.
I think these four images are a good reflection of my work and of the capabilities of the Leica M9 and M Monochrom. I reached out to my printer Mitsuhiro Matsudaira from Aflo Atelier. His work is stunning and I am always pleasantly surprised to see my prints. I stop by this evening for the final check and to sign the prints and now they are off to True Sense. They are going to frame them and put a little plaque about each photo, me and ShootTokyo under each photo!
