Sunday in Tokyo
I stepped out of my apartment into the barren wasteland that is now Tokyo. I was sad and depressed to see the empty streets for the 10th day in a row this Sunday in Tokyo...
...thankfully I realized that it was actually just the traffic light changing and cars and people were soon upon me.
Sadly photos like these are being used on commercial news programs to exaggerate the situation in Tokyo. It is frustrating for people that live here as it is distracting from where attention is really needed. More important its confusing and causes concern for their loved ones living outside of Tokyo trying to understand what is happening to theirs. I was reading the CNN's blog yesterday and they were quoting iReports on the 'Ghost Town of Tokyo'. I wrote to iReport to ask them to be more responsible when vetting stories and somehow my email turned into an iReport. Perhaps this goes to show the quality of the iReports they are putting out now. You can read it HERE. Feel free to comment liberally.
I also send @andersoncooper a tweet this morning asking him when he finished with his morning croissant in Tokyo with Sanjay Gupta that he submits an iReport on it so CNN knows that he is OK. Based on what I have been reading on CNN I'm sure they must be worried.
Now onto some daily shots of Tokyo...
The wife and I upgraded to iPhone 4s. I had a 3Gs so this is just an update for me but this will be a new platform for Mayumi. I really love my Apple products so looking forward to learning more about my new iPhone.
We had a 'hot pizza date' at Salvatore XEX in Daikanyama. They make the world's best pizza and I hightly recommend eating here.
I headed out this evening for a walk around Shibuya for some shooting. I love to take the same shot at different times of the day. I love how this can completely change the mood of a shot.
Power conservation continues in Tokyo. Some of us get it, some don't...
Suntory clearly missed the memo. I'll paraphrase for them.
To the people of Suntory:
We had an Earthquake.
A Nuclear Power Plant is really messed up.
Limited power in Tokyo.
Need to conserve to avoid black out.
If people are thirsty, they will find your drinks even in the dark.
Need your help.
Thanks
The People of Tokyo
I stopped by Cerchio in Nakameguro and bought some pudding and other sweets for the house. This place is lovely if you have never been.
Found a few cherry blossoms starting to bloom.
Am I the only one who sees the irony in the fact that 'Mary Jane' is a no smoking bar?
This guy is so happy as he has the only egg in all of Tokyo...
I played a bit with my M9/Noctilux Bohek Machine to see what I could generate...
Stopped by the fortune teller...he said more camera gear was in my future. Smart man.
The streets of Shibuya were crowded once again.
A girl waits for her friend at 'hachiko'.
Meet Richard a great guy from Scotland Northern Ireland who I met while shooting. Hope to shoot together again.
Looking forward to holiday Monday...
