Time for a Change (Part 1)

Time for a Change (Part 1)

I've been noticing a lot of spots on my images when I am shooting at f/11+.  I could really notice it when I am looking at the images large.  I brought in both my Leica Monochrom and my Leica M9-P to Leica Ginza to have the sensors cleaned.   My long time Leica customer service rep Naoki came out looking a bit concerned.  He informed me that both cameras sensors have significant corrosion on them.  This is known problem for this Leica sensor.

I have had this problem before and Leica replaced the sensors free of charge.  They offered to replace them again.  Naoki also told me about a new program only at Leica Ginza for upgrading to the Leica SL and Leica M10.  Long story short they gave me a great deal to upgrade from my current M9 and Monochrom to the new Leica M10.  I was the first person to use the new program!  it's only offered at Leica Ginza so if you are in Tokyo and looking to upgrade stop by and see them.

I'm now shooting the Leica M10 and loving it.  More on that in a future post.   I got my Leica M9 in November of 2010 and picked up the Monochrom the same month in 2012.   These cameras have literally traveled the world with me.   I never leave the house without one of these, or my Leica MP, around my neck.  They have been great tools for me to capture the world around me.  My cameras are well cared for but they get worked really hard as well.   I've posted about 5,900 Leica M9 images and 1,500 Leica Monochrom on ShootTokyo.  It's a bit sad for me to retire these cameras.

This will be my final Leica M9 post and my next post will be my final M Monochrom post.

Today's Configuration: Leica M9-P with a Summilux 35mm f/1.4

Jiyugaoka Matsuri

Jiyugaoka Matsuri

These images are from the annual Jiyugaoka Masturi a few months.  I have missed it the past few years due to various commitments.   My favorite year I shot the matsuri was in 2012 when I shot it on film.  I love how a few of the images came out.  There are a few I really love from that day.

There is this cool little camera shop in Daikanyama T Site which has a Leica corner.  They have a lot of really neat old Russian cameras and lenses.  It's a bit of a weird little shop as they have so many high-end Leica products.   M9 Titanium,  The Leica M60, M10, Kyoto Edition, and many others.  Given it's not a proper Leica shop I always wonder who walks in and drops the kinda of money these cameras command on a whim.

Be well.
